As we prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July (symbolizing freedom and independence), let us also explore strategies to help us become/stay liberated from the stress, negativity,
and emotional roller coasters that prevent us from being “free indeed” (John 8:36).
1.) IT’S OKAY TO GIVE YOURSELF A TIME OUT WHEN FEELING OVERWHELMED:
Please beware when you’re tired, wounded, sleep-deprived, not feeling well, or just have an unexplainable case of the ‘blues’. Why? It is because the enemy often uses this time of vulnerability to trigger an impulsive, emotional reaction from you that you may deeply regret later. At this stage, it’s best to practice the vocabulary of silence!
2.) ALWAYS ENDEAVOR TO COMMUNICATE SO CLEARLY THAT YOU CAN NOT BE EASILY MISUNDERSTOOD :
When we text, email, or speak, we know exactly what we intend to communicate, but often we don’t take the time to carefully evaluate and adjust our words so that they cannot be misconstrued. The extra time you take in your communications can save you hours
of unnecessary conflict and backpedaling down the road.
3.) REMEMBER THE THREE FACES OF FEAR:
The three faces of FEAR are anger, control, and withdrawal. Most people instinctively react this way to protect themselves from disappointment, embarrassment, or hurt. This knowledge will help you move forward with people in your sphere with a spirit of patience, discernment, and restoration.
